Lipsi or Leipsoi

In the northern Dodecanese, nestled between the enchanting islands of Patmos and Leros, lies the peaceful sanctuary known as Lipsi. This unassuming gem is the largest of a group of 20 islands and islets that are part of the esteemed Natura network, boasting a pristine ecological landscape that is nothing short of breathtaking.

Legend has it that even the great Odysseus himself was bewitched by the serenity of Lipsi upon deviating from his journey back to Ithaca. And who could blame him? The landscape, with its gentle rolling hills and crystalline waters, invites one to pause and drink in the natural beauty that abounds.

But it's not just the scenery that exudes a sense of tranquility - the people themselves are a testament to the all-important inner peace that pervades the island. Visitors will find themselves enveloped in a warm, hospitable embrace, where the simple pleasures of life take center stage.

Lipsi has a rich history that dates back to prehistoric times, with the present settlement being founded in 1669 by a Cretan named Ilias. Although annexed to Greece in 1948, the island has retained its unique charm and remains a hidden gem waiting to be discovered.

With an area of 16 km² and a coastline of 35 km, Lipsi may be small in size, but it packs a punch when it comes to offering a truly authentic Greek island experience. And with easy ferry connections to the nearby ports of Leros and Patmos, there's no excuse not to venture out and explore this idyllic haven for yourself.
