Rhodes is heading towards a new record in tourism

Rhodes seems to be heading towards a new record in tourism this year, according to the data, as the optimistic messages that existed early on have now started to become tangible evidence with an increase in airline seats as well as flights.

The good development of the 2024 season was confirmed yesterday by the Deputy Mayor of Culture and Tourism Mr. George Toppos, who attended the International Trade Fair ITB Berlin 2024 in Berlin together with the Mayor of Rhodes Mr. Alexandros Koliadis and the delegation of the municipality, from which the final picture of how this year will move.

It is worth noting that the deputy mayor spoke of a ... fantastic season and stood particularly on what the representatives of Rhodes announced to the representatives of the company Jet2 regarding the remarkable increase in flights and airline seats to Rhodes.

"The messages we received from the Berlin International Tourism Fair were very encouraging. A lot of people came through and the messages we received confirm that in the 2024 season, barring an unforeseen event, we will break records, it will be a fantastic season for all of us," Toppos said, adding:

"I should note that in a meeting we held with the mayor and Jet2 officials, they informed us that they will increase their weekly flights to 48 and the increase in bookings compared to last year is 24%. And we are talking about 250,000 visitors from Jet2 alone."

According to the deputy mayor, the German market will also have a significant increase compared to last year, as in 2023, this market did not do as well as we expected, but this year we are expecting an increase.
Mr. Toppos was also asked about the messages received from other markets, which are also very good as there is an increase in bookings.

"For the other markets, such as Poland, which is a big market and we rank it in the top five, it will continue to grow, which is very important because it is a very big market for Rhodes. Also the French market and the rest are also increasing," he replied.

On this occasion, he referred to the preparations being made on the island for the opening of the tourist season, focusing mainly on cleanliness, in order to improve the image of the destination.

"We are preparing for the season and we are trying to be ready. All the stakeholders are working on this part so that visitors coming to the island will find it ready in terms of cleanliness, primarily and we have put all the focus there," the deputy mayor said.

Regarding the "Rhodes Pass", he stressed that it is an important measure for visitors who lost their holidays last summer due to the fires on our island, but he believes that the way it is implemented should be made simpler, as he said the process is very complicated.

However, Mr. Toppos made known that there have been various discussions on the issue with stakeholders and the mayor has discussed it with the Minister of Tourism Mrs. Olga Kefalogianni, who said she will proceed to some changes and modifications, as this way will give the opportunity to both entrepreneurs and visitors to use, because the process is too complicated.
