An announcement by the Municipality of Rhodes, states the following:
The two-day presence of Rhodes at the Greek Luxury Tourism & Gastronomy Workshop (14-15 November) in Manhattan, New York was a success.
The Rhodian Tourism Promotion Organization (PROTOUR) participated in the Workshop, having organized appointments and contacts with tour operators from New York and other US states and managed to pave the way for the "unlocking" of the American tourism market, one of the main objectives of the Municipal Authority.
Specifically, Rhodes is going to be a key part of the tourist packages that will be sold in the United States for Greece, while until now it was not included. Having done the proper groundwork and having researched the needs of US travel agencies, PROTOUR has offered a third destination in the Aegean for American tourists in whose travel culture island hopping is an integral part.
In particular, the Municipality of Rhodes at the Greek Luxury Tourism & Gastronomy Workshop, gave special attention to the presentations of the Medieval Town, the history and culture of the island, the cultural events, the local gastronomy and wine production, attracting the interest of the American tour operators with the aim of welcoming the first visitors from the USA in mid-April 2023. Many discussions were held about accessible tourism, the infrastructure available and the facilities that Rhodes provides for elderly tourists and people with disabilities. The "Rhodes 5-0" programme was also presented which is aimed at visitors over 50 years of age.
It is worth noting that in all discussions and contacts with tour operators, special reference was made to the direct flights from various US cities to Athens and the facilities that Star Alliance can offer so that Rhodes can be the final destination with the same flight code and therefore less airport taxes. US visitors will then be able to fly from Rhodes to Santorini and back to Athens.
After the autonomous and highly successful presence of the Municipality of Rhodes at Word Travel Market-WTM with a booth of PROTOUR, the program of participation in tourism exhibitions in Greece and abroad continues dynamically.
The workshop in New York was the first stop after London, followed by PHILOXENIA in Thessaloniki (18-20 November) where PROTOUR and the Tourism Department of the Municipality of Rhodes will present the destination.
In December, PROTOUR and the Tourism Directorate will take part in workshops in Warsaw and Seoul, South Korea, in a combined effort with the Aegean Region, the Dodecanese Chamber of Commerce and the EPOT Tourism Think Tank.
