The fact was announced in a post on social media by the South Aegean regional governor, George Hadjimarkos, which states the following: "We were pleased to receive today the approval, from the Ministry of Culture, of the zoning of the Rhodes Waterport. We have been serving this goal with perseverance and I would say stoicism for many years. Dreams are only extinguished when you give up on them and we keep our dreams alive with our work".
It should be noted that in January 2024, the Department of Modern Monuments had issued a decision according to which it did not grant permission for the siting of the waterway. The decision stated, among other things, that "its activity will cause damage to one of the most prominent points of the archaeological site of Rhodes and the historic site of Mandraki, as well as significant nuisance."
