According to the latest figures released by Fraport for August, the flow of tourists to Rhodes has seen a significant rise. However, it is often noted that an increase in visitor numbers does not always equate to higher revenues, due to various factors.
August saw a remarkable and, for many, unexpected surge in tourism compared to last year. The trend is expected to continue in September, with high visitor numbers typically seen at this time of year. This is evident from the steady daily traffic at Rhodes' airport, largely driven by charter flights. Despite entering the autumn months, the influx of tourists remains strong.
Data for the first half of the year shows a clear upward trend in tourism, with an increase of over 320,000 tourists compared to the same period last year. It should be noted, however, that Fraport Greece's August figures for Diagoras Airport now include Greek passenger arrivals from domestic flights, which had not been previously counted. This slightly skews the overall picture of international tourist traffic.
On the other hand, the cruise industry has experienced a decline. Cruise ship visits to Rhodes dropped by about 4%, with 15 fewer ships docking at the port and 11,923 fewer cruise passengers compared to last year.
